Dr. Smith was born and raised in North Carolina, received his BS from East Carolina University in Greenville, N. C., Dietetic Internship Diploma, Master of Medical Science in Clinical Nutrition, and MD from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. His surgical training included residency at the USC School of Medicine, Department of Surgery at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, S. C. He obtained his Board certification in 1998.
Current Hospital Affiliations
• Active staff at Lexington Medical Center, where he served as Vice-Chief of General Surgery from 1999-2001
• Chief of General Surgery 2001-2003.
• He has also served on the Intensive Care Committee, Performance Improvement Committee, and Institutional Review Board.
• He joined Lexington Surgical Associates in 1997, after practicing for two years at the Toccoa Clinic and Stephens County Hospital in Toccoa, Georgia.
